Long-serving Psoriasis Association Chairman steps down after eight years

Psoriasis Association Chairman Nick Evans has stepped down after eight years in the role.

Nick, who became a Trustee of the Psoriasis Association in 2011, was elected as Chairman in 2015 and helped steer the organisation through a challenging period of growth and expansion including the change from an unincorporated organisation to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To celebrate his unwavering dedication and support to the organisation over the years, he was appointed an Honorary-Vice President at the Psoriasis Association’s Annual General Meeting in Manchester in July. He was presented with the award by Chief Executive Helen McAteer and new incoming Chairman Dr Julia Schofield MBE.

“In his endeavours to support and lead the Psoriasis Association as a Trustee and Chairman, Nick has displayed great kindness and thoughtfulness. His calm approach puts people at ease while his measured approach to problems has been hugely valued by all of those who have worked with him during his time as Chairman. He is very supportive towards the members, staff, trustees, and the wider psoriasis and dermatology community.

“Honorary Life Vice Presidency roles are offered to people who have been recognised for their past service to the Psoriasis Association and it is felt that Nick has been a great advocate for many years".

Prior to becoming a Trustee of the Psoriasis Association, Nick worked on the NHS Modernisation programme ‘Action on Dermatology’ (established in 2001) where he was a great advocate for the dermatology patient support groups, and in particular the Psoriasis Association.

He served for many years on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Skin (APPGS) Advisory Board, meeting with Members of both Houses, raising awareness of the needs of people with psoriasis and the wider dermatology community.

He helped to accomplish the Psoriasis Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) and then further put the recommendations from that report into practice within the Psoriasis Association’s own research funding initially within the PhD programme and then with the commitment to BSTOP.

Dr Julia Schofield MBE was elected as the new Chair of the Psoriasis Association at the AGM in June. Russ Cowper will serve as Vice-Chair.
